New release : Chat with your friends on MSN !

Dear Bisters,

One of the big features we promised a few weeks ago, the Bistri / Windows Live Messenger (formerly MSN) is now available !

No need to import your friends to video call, or simply chat with them, just activate the services you need, where your friends are.

Chrome Notifications

If you use Google Chrome to video call on Bistri, you will be notified right on your desktop. If one of your contacts send you a text message, or try to start a video call with you. To enable this feature, just click on “allow” when Chrome will ask for your agreement :

Here is how a Bistri desktop notification look like :

Video Tests

Bistri use the Adobe Flash technology to enable the access to your camera, your microphone and your speakers, but it is not so easy to customize these settings. We designed a simple window for you, in order to let your select the input sound source, the camera…

Just click on “Video Test” to show the following window :

Invite your friends in one click

The main page of the Bistri service has been simplified to focus on the most used way to invite friends for a video call :

but the social sharing features are still there, on the top right :

This new version of Bistri was published for the 1st year of the company. We celebrated this anniversary at Aerokart.

Bisters, GO GO GO flying!

and karting !

New release : Chat with your friends on Facebook, Yahoo, and Jabber. Chat History

Dear Bisters,

A few weeks ago, we launched the Bistri / Google Gateway, the first of a long list of course !

We are really proud to launch today the following gateways :

  • Bistri / Facebook
  • Bistri / Yahoo Messenger
  • Bistri / XMPP (Jabber)

No need to import your friends to video call, or simply chat with them, just activate the services you need, where your friends are.

Facebook has the largest number of users, but some people still resist to Facebook, keep using other services like Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo messenger, or even the open protocol XMPP (Jabber).

The Internet has been invented to be able to communicate, even after a global disaster like a world war or a nuclear explosion… the specifications were clear, written by smart & philanthropic persons. Their documents used to become standards after a simple process, adopted by the ones who wanted to participate in building this new world. At this moment, no one could imagine create a service using non-standard protocols, nor put the user in a walled garden…

The users were free to jump from one site to another, just following links…

All these so successful “Big Gorillas” are offering amazing services, but they also try to keep the user stuck. As an example, impossible for a Facebook User to chat with a friend who prefer keep using Yahoo Messenger.

At Bistri, we believe in video chat interoperability !

Now, let’s try the new Facebook gateway :

1 - Click on “Settings”, on the top right. There is a new tab called “IM accounts”

2 - You are already done !

Your friends from Facebook are now visible in your friend list, with a specific icon

3 - Chat with them, as you talk to any Bistri user.

If you start a video call with a friend who is using Facebook Chat, he will receive your Bistri Link in his favorite instant messenger : one click from him, and you will enjoy the Bistri Video Chat, full of funny video effects :)

On the Bistri Mobile Web App, you will also chat with your Facebook, Google, Yahoo, and Jabber friends.

Conversation history

A simple click in the settings, and all your conversations are saved :

“Enable messages archiving”

Of course, if you don’t want to save the conversations you have with a particular contact, just unselect “allow archiving for this contact” on the chat window.

Simple for the user, but a true challenge to make it. More about it on the Bistri Engineering Blog.

As I am writing these lines, late in the night, this terrible news…

RIP, Steve

Gateway to Heaven

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” - Steve Jobs
