High Speed Internet Orange Contest : the Bistri project, based on WebRTC
Always excited in facing new challenges, the Bistri team rearrange the product roadmap in order to run the Orange F4ST contest with something big :
A multi-user HD video conference, between 4 different devices : a smartphone, a tablet, a computer, and a connected TV. The mobile devices use an Orange 4G LTE connection, the computer will be used in an enterprise environnement, and the TV at home, on a very high speed fiber connection.
A single click on a link and you join the conference, like always with Bistri. On the mobile devices, it works in the browser, if you have Chrome Beta for Android, but in the future versions of Android, the WebRTC technology will be available in the default browser. We also have a native app to minimize the usage of the CPU and the battery life.
But… that was not enough !
On the beta version of Chrome, the screen sharing is also available, the other participants can see your screen as they where in front of it. It is magical, nothing to install !
Last but not least, all the screen flows are recorded, even the screen that has been shared, in one single video, that you can send or post anywhere.
In the next months, all these features will be released on the Bistri production platform, to let anyone enjoy them !

Be the First to make WebRTC Video Calls

This is a big day today, with Google’s release of Chrome 23.

This is how to make it work.

If you have Chrome, check your version by typing “chrome://chrome/” in the address bar,
it must be > 23.0.1271.64.
Now you are ready to test WebRTC

He will have to setup is computer the same way as you just did.
If you want to try the demo on your own, just open an incognito window :
Use the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl+Shift+N (Windows, Linux and Chrome OS) and ⌘-Shift-N (Mac)
and copy/paste your Bistri Link to be reached in this incognito window. Your Bistri Link is displayed when your click on “Invite” on the right side of the header on Bistri :

3 - When you receive an incoming call, Chrome let you choose the Webcam and the micro you like to use on the top-right of the screen.

As the video call starts, don’t forget to click on “Allow” on the top bar.

At this moment, if you have more than one audio input or camera, you have the opportunity to change the device that Chrome will use. You can also click on “Always allow this site to use this camera and this microphone”. Note that Chrome will never ask you again about this question, but you can change this option later in the settings of Chrome.

If everything is fine on your computer, you will see this desktop notification :

After a few seconds, tada !

You will see the WebRTC logo on the right.

Bister of the month : Andrew
Andrew, 27, from NYC, is our first Bister of the month.
I interviewed him with Bistri to know a bit more about him and what he thinks of Bistri.
Hello Andrew, when did you start to use Bistri ?
I started to use Bistri in December 2011, a few weeks after the website was online!
How do you use bistri?
I mainly use Bistri for professional matters.
As I am a freelance web designer and technology consultant, I find it very convenient for business conference calls with my clients who are not always based in NYC.
I also work on projects that involve international teams so I mainly use Bistri with them.
What do you like about bistri? Why are you using Bistri more than another service ?
I like the fact that it is very simple to use.
There is no software to download. I can simply send my bistrilink to my clients, and we can start a video call in a few minutes. I like the fact that we don’t have to be «friends» on the website to be able to make a video call together.
What new feature would like Bistri to develop to make your life easier?
Multi Conference calls would be great.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts about Bistri Andrew !!
Like Andrew, do not hesitate to let us know about any improvement or new feature you wish to see soon on Bistri!
Share your love for Bistri and be our next Bister of the month !!
